Bacchus Resources withdraws gold mining exploration licence application for Adelaide River township

 Gold mining company Bacchus Resources has withdrawn a mineral exploration licence application for a Top End township after community backlash. A community meeting was held on Sunday in which 50 residents from Adelaide River, 100 kilometres south of Darwin, gathered to discuss the prospect of mining exploration on their doorstep. In March they had received notice from Bacchus Resources that it was seeking an exploration licence, covering 108 square kilometres immediately surrounding the township. But the promise of renewable hydrogen, critical minerals and carbon capture and storage also included another industry — petrochemicals. So after green groups mounted a campaign against the Middle Arm Sustainable Development Precinct, the NT government hatched its own strategic response.  Lawyers for celebrity crocodile wrangler Matt Wright have returned to court seeking more information about the charges he is facing over a helicopter crash that killed his friend Chris "Willow" Wilson, including a toxicology report of the chopper pilot. Mr Wright, who is the star of the Netflix reality show Wild Croc Territory, is facing a series of charges in relation to the crash in Arnhem Land in February 2022, including attempting to pervert the course of justice, destruction of evidence, fabricating evidence and two counts of unlawful entry. He was not on board the helicopter at the time of the crash and has strenuously denied any wrongdoing.
